Bio

Tristan “TK” Irving is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist based in Portland, Oregon, whose work explores Black identity, memory, recovery, and collective care. Working across painting, portraiture, and cultural objects, Irving creates emotionally resonant pieces that center lived experience while examining the environments and relationships that shape it.
His practice bridges fine art and accessibility, extending beyond traditional exhibition spaces into public-facing and functional works. Irving has exhibited at the Portland Art Museum and participated in projects such as the PDX Window Project and Brooklyn’s Art Break series. His work is held in both private and institutional collections, including that of the Mark Rothko family and Carmelo Anthony.
In 2026, Irving launched The Backyard Series, an ongoing body of work exploring collective Black childhood through themes of memory, community, and generational care. The first release, We Are Each Other’s Backyard, debuted through the Portland Art Museum, marking an expansion of his practice into collectible, narrative-driven objects that function as both art and educational tools.
Rooted in community engagement and personal experience, Irving’s work operates as both documentation and invitation—preserving cultural memory while encouraging reflection, dialogue, and connection across audiences.
